The storage, handling and use of hazardous materials require a good knowledge of them to remain safe at all times.
In 2015, the Workplace Materials Information System (WHMIS) was modified to integrate it with the Globally Harmonized System (GHS). The aim of this harmonization is to adopt uniform criteria for hazard classification, and to standardize the content and format of labels and safety data sheets used worldwide.
Many countries had systems for classifying and labelling hazardous products, but these differed from one another. In fact, it was not uncommon to find different systems in use within the same country.
In short, WHMIS has undergone significant changes that must be passed on to workers to ensure their health and safety in the workplace.
