Several works are carried out on the roads of Quebec and many work-related accidents occur there every year. Workers who are injured or die are too often road signallers, who are exposed to traffic.
The services of a road sign or road signaller may be retained when it is necessary to control road traffic due to works, exceptional events, events or sporting competitions, particularly where:
• Vehicles must be stopped or slow down near a work area or event.
• the traffic shall be in one lane, alternating in both directions.
• the situation makes it impossible to see a work area or event (e.g., at the bottom of a slope or in a curve).
Except in specific situations, the traffic sign must not direct traffic when the speed limit displayed on the white-background sign is greater than 70 km/h.
This training, designed with reference to the standards Tome V – Road signage, presents the essential elements that must be known by signallers working on road construction sites.
P.S. : It should be noted that this training is an awareness of the job of a road signaller. Completing this training does not lead to obtaining the certification card issued by the Association québécoise des transports (AQTr) and accredited by the MTQ.
